The Basement Walls Take Shape

February 12, 2008

Construction is progressing with the help of a mild winter so far. It took longer to excavate for the basement as we encountered red rock and had to hammer it loose – up to 7’ of rock in some spots. The new building is beginning to take shape as the basement concrete walls were poured on Friday February 8th.

Over the next few weeks you will see most of the activity take place inside the Library as we clear out the storage room and remove approximately 10,000 books in preparation for the South wall of the existing east wing being removed. Outside additional exterior column footings will be constructed and the new basement walls will be water-proofed and backfilled.

The Library has been hard at work designing the interior of the new building. So many decision regarding ceiling finishes, lighting fixtures, door hardware, security, telephone, floor finishes, elevator finishes, and numerous other choices have to be made – we are thankful for the many wonderful professionals who are there to guide us.

What about parking? We'd visit the library a lot more often as long as we don't have to feed the muni monster. lol...
